Pemco World Air Services, headquartered in Dothan, Ala., contracts with airlines for maintenance services and safety checks. Companies like Pemco represent a growing trend in the industry. According to the Department of Transportation, the amount of maintenance dollars outsourced by the top U.S. airlines went from 37 to 64 percent from 1996 to 2006. Airlines typically pay about $65 per hour for their own maintenance employees. Companies like Pemco charge in the mid $50 range. Repair work performed in Latin America costs in the mid $20s. Maintenance work performed outside the country has come under fire in Washington and from union leaders.

Pemco has been in the commercial maintenance and modification business for over 50 years, providing parts, engineering and precision components to the industry.
